Doyle Hits 3 Homers Against Penn State
Wednesday, April 8th , 2020
It's a rare event when a player hits three homers in a game and rarer still when he does it and loses.
It happened at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park today, as Ryan Doyle of the Indiana Hoosiers unloaded three times against the Penn State Nittany Lions but was still bumped off 11-9 by the Nittany Lions.
"We were lucky to win today," said Penn State skipper Jimmy Wilson. "You can't give up that many home runs and expect to win on a regular basis."
For the game, the Indiana catcher had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, scored 3 times, and drove in 6.
Doyle spoke to the writers in the postgame press room with mixed feelings, saying he was sad to lose but happy to be seeing the ball well.
"I was just trying to swing early and often to give myself a chance," he said. "I let the pitcher supply all the power and try to figure out how to get the bat on the ball."
Ryan Doyle struck out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Aaron Quatrone in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off John Hansen in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Raul Galindo in the 8th.
Hitting .311 to date, Doyle has 9 home runs and 22 RBIs. He has played in 25 games.
