Pendell Is King of Swing: Goes Deep 3 Times
Saturday, March 27th , 2021
Texas A&M Aggies center fielder Tom Pendell almost did it all. He sent three shots out of the ballpark, scored 3 times and drove in 5 runs and had 4 hits in 5 at-bats.
The one thing he could not do, however, was lead the Aggies to victory. The Iowa State Cyclones escaped with the win, 17-11, despite being on the receiving end of the barrage from Pendell.
"I'd be lying if I said I didn't like hitting three homers, but losing takes a little glitter off the game," he admitted to BNN writers after the game.
Tom Pendell hit a solo-shot off Joe Coda in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Joe Coda in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Brian Barkley in the 8th and hit a two-run double in the 9th.
"When someone hits three home runs, you put yourself in a tough position to win," said Texas A&M manager Joel Spindler. "We were lucky to win this one. I don't think it matters how hard you throw, especially in the Conference 2. If you leave a ball out over the plate to good ABA College hitters, if they get a bead on you and you leave it over the middle, they're probably going to take a good hack at it."
This year, Pendell has hit at a .357 pace and produced 9 RBIs, 3 home runs and scored 5 runs.
