Knights Prevail, as Sweet 16 Goes to the Wire Saturday, May 10th , 2025 The stakes were high at John Euliano Park tonight and the UCF Knights stepped up when it counted. Edging the Texas Longhorns 2-1 to wrap up the Sweet 16, UCF won the clinching game by a 3-0 score. "You've got to fight that doubt and that little part of you that says you can't do it or you're going to fail," said UCF right-hander Jon Schwab. "The possibility of failure is always in your mind, but you can't let it bring you down." The failure of the Longhorns to advance was certainly weighing heavily on the team's manager. "It's a crushing loss and a tough way to lose a series," Allen Barr said. "In the end there can only be one College World Series champion and we're just devastated it's not going to be us." Schwab's strong pitching earned him the nod as series MVP. He had a 0.00 ERA over 9 innings pitched. He added 7 strikeouts with a 1-0 record. The UCF Knights don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the LSU Tigers - Auburn Tigers series. That series is tied at 1 game each. The Elite 8 schedule will be announced after the Sweet 16 finishes. |
