Elite Eight Goes the Distance, North Oconee High School Prevails
Sunday, May 17th , 2020
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at North Oconee High School Stadium as the Elite Eight stretched to the final game.
It was the North Oconee High School Titans feeling the thrill of victory, with a 7-4 win over the Orange Lutheran High School Lancers, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Final Four.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Orange Lutheran High School manager Steve Fulton. "Congratulations to North Oconee High School, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 2-1 series win was second baseman Ed Dove, who was named MVP. He hit .364 with a .462 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 4 RBI and scored 4 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The North Oconee High School Titans will play against the Southlake Carroll High School Dragons in the next round. Southlake Carroll High School won their series against the Pace High School Patriots 2 games to 1. The Final Four schedule will be announced after the Elite Eight finishes.
