Opening Round Goes the Distance, Palo Alto High School Prevails

It went the distance, but the Palo Alto High School Vikings finally disposed of the Georgetown High School Eagles 8-4 in the series clincher at Palo Alto High School Stadium.

Winning the finale gave the Vikings the series, 2-1. They will now advance to the Sweet 16.

The Most Valuable Player Award went to Palo Alto High School first baseman Steve Anderson. He batted .333 in the series, collecting 1 RBIs and scoring 2 runs.

"Steve deserves it," said Vikings manager Larry Bears. "He was the glue that held our club together."

The Palo Alto High School Vikings will play against the Pace High School Patriots in the next round. Pace High School won their series against the North Hall High School Trojans 2 games to 1. The Sweet 16 schedule will be announced after the Opening Round finishes.
