Wolverines Win Opening Round
Monday, May 11th , 2020
The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat were on full display tonight at Doral Academy Baseball Complex as the Opening Round stretched to the final game.
It was the Woodstock High School Wolverines feeling the thrill of victory, with a 4-0 win over the Doral Academy Firebirds, who were feeling the devastation of coming up short in their quest to make the Sweet 16.
"There's no way around it -- this sucks," said Doral Academy manager Ryan Stratton. "Congratulations to Woodstock High School, but I won't sugarcoat it, no one is happy about anything that transpired here tonight."
Instrumental in the 2-1 series win was right fielder Matt Strader, who was named MVP. He hit .545 with a .643 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, drove in 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.
"We've got the most important stat of all and that's this final win -- that's the one that matters," he said.
The Woodstock High School Wolverines will play against the Lake Travis High School Cavaliers in the next round. Lake Travis High School won their series against the Lowndes High School Vikings 2 games to 0. The Sweet 16 schedule will be announced after the Opening Round finishes.
