Virnig Grabs AHS Reliever of the Year Award
Friday, June 13th , 2025
Jon Virnig was a calming influence out of the Berkeley Prep High School Buccaneers bullpen this season.

His teammates and manager said he had a poised demeanor about him that was typical of someone much older and more experienced. His poise has paid off, as the 16-year-old turned in a sparkling season and has been named the winner of the ABA High School Reliever of the Year Award for 2025.

The Doctor Phillips, Florida native won the award with 6 saves in 17 relief appearances, 32 strikeouts in 29.1 innings and a record of 5-1 to go with his 0.92 ERA.

He received 64 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Mike Williams of the Cardinal Gibbons High School Chiefs finished second in voting, while Jim Mies of the Notre Dame High School Knights finished third.
