Johnson Fires No-Hitter Against Jesuit High School
Monday, April 28th , 2025
Tompkins High School Falcons starter Matt Johnson said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Johnson recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Tompkins High School right-hander no-hit the Jesuit High School Tigers, 1-0, at Paul Straub Field at Hyer Family Park, finishing with 3 walks and 10 strikeouts, facing only 32 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Johnson admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
This year, Johnson has a 2-2 record and a 5.27 ERA.
