Bang-up Game: Martin Slams 3 Homers
Saturday, June 4th , 2022
Winchester Mountaineers first baseman Joe Martin sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Mobile Yard Dogs, Martin told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Martin pushed the Mountaineers past the Yard Dogs, 6-4. To go along with the homers, he collected 4 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Martin told reporters after the game.
Joe Martin hit a solo-shot off Tim Citrowske in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off Tim Citrowske in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Ricky Alvarez in the 8th.
This season, Martin has hit at a .462 clip with 34 RBIs, 15 home runs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 48 games.
