League Suspends Miami's Calloway
Sunday, August 3rd , 2025
Miami second baseman Devin Calloway has been suspended for 4 games for an on-field tirade with an umpire that left Calloway standing in his socks. He was ejected from the Boll Weevils-Stockton game for disputing a strike call. Calloway let fly with a flurry of expletives, threw down his bat and hat, then went nose-to-nose with the umpire, bobbing his head and screaming. He turned to kick the dirt around home plate, ripped off his shoe and showed it to the umpire, then pulled back his sleeve and shoved his armpit toward the umpire's face. Calloway continued to argue, kicking off his other shoe. Another umpire stepped between them. After slamming the second shoe down, the irate player went over to the Boll Weevils dugout, fished out a batting doughnut from a bag, then paired it with another to make a mock pair of eyeglasses before slamming both weights down.
The tour de farce ended after several minutes of confrontation. Calloway finally retrieved his bat, shouted a few more choice words and walked into the dugout. A bat boy retrieved his shoes and hat...and his eyeglasses, too.
Calloway did not return a message seeking comment today.
This year, Calloway is batting .321 with 9 hits and 1 home run. He has scored 4 times and has batted in 4 runs.
