Velasquez Skunks Rohnert Park, 6-0
Sunday, August 23rd , 2026
Robert Velasquez of the Boise Dread Kings was on top of his game.
The 22-year-old tantalized the Rohnert Park Cougars with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 6-0.
"He had the changeup working," Rohnert Park manager Michael Kelleher said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Boise hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 1 hit in his complete-game effort.
Velasquez told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This year, Velasquez has worked 100.1 innings with 72 strikeouts en route to a 3-3 record and 3.77 ERA.
