5-Hit Barrage by Routh Monday, August 5th , 2024 After a 5-hit effort to lead Alcoa's 14-7 victory over the Washington Wildthings, first baseman Corey Routh told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day." "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Double A-level is really something special." The 22-year-old player earned his accolades at Red Barons Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Wildthings. "His swing is getting there," said Millionaires skipper , who spoke glowingly of Routh after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Corey did that to perfection." Corey Routh singled in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
