Traverse City Halts Carroll's Hitting Steak
Friday, August 14th , 2026
Billy Carroll came rolling into today's game against the Traverse City Bears with a 20-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Greensboro Grounds.
The 23-year-old Winchester Mountaineers designated hitter went 0-for-4 against the Bears as the Mountaineers fell, 1-0.
"I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all."
So far this season, Carroll is hitting .316 with 30 home runs, 93 RBIs and 91 runs scored. He has 149 hits in 471 at-bats and a .388 OBP.
