Perez and Matias Fight, Suspended 2 Games
Wednesday, July 22nd , 2026
One player challenged the other with some angry words at the Polecats-Millionaires game at Alcoa Grounds yesterday. There was some pushing and shoving -- then the dugouts emptied. There was a lot of scuffling, but no punches thrown. When order was finally restored and the dust settled, the umpires ejected Libertyville's Jerry Perez and Alcoa's Julio Matias.
Now both antagonists will get some time off, courtesy of the league commissioner. They were suspended 2 games for inappropriate and aggressive behavior.
Thus far this year, Perez is hitting .291 with 5 home runs, 10 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
To date, Matias has a 3-8 mark in 14 starts with a 6.00 ERA. He has given up 102 hits in 87 innings, struck out 69 and issued 37 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .296 batting average against him.
