Mountaineers Move on to World Series
Saturday, September 26th , 2020
The League Championship Series may not have lived up to the expectation that it would be a dogfight that would go the distance. The Winchester Mountaineers, however, are not complaining.
The Mountaineers were plenty happy to have wrapped up the series early and to have knocked out the Libertyville Polecats to advance to the World Series.
Winchester won the final game by a 5-0 count at Field of the Polecats and the series 4-1.
Mountaineers right fielder Nick Wisniewski was named series MVP, as he hit .368 with a .455 on-base percentage. He added 0 home runs, drove in 1 RBI and scored 4 runs.
"It's not going to be the last time Libertyville makes it to the playoffs, so it's sure a nice feeling to put them out this year," Wisniewski said. "We just need to keep this going and take it day by day."
The Winchester Mountaineers don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Augusta Capitols - Sonoma Scorpions series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The World Series schedule will be announced after the League Championship Series finishes.
