Thursday, May 23rd , 2024
The "hardest feat in sports" debate is a never-ending one with no correct answer, but hitting three home runs is certainly in the conversation. That's exactly what Steve Valkenburg did at Greensboro Grounds, going deep three times and carrying his team to victory, 26-15.
"It all came together. I was seeing the ball well and I got some good pitches to hit," Valkenburg said. "Good things happen, when that happens."
The Encinitas Eskimo Brothers right fielder blistered the Traverse City Bears for 4 hits, batted in 8 runs and scored 4 times.
"It ain't like we weren't trying," Traverse City manager Zach Hildebrant said. "He was hot and really torched my boys today."
Steve Valkenburg grounded out in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Bernado Marcelo in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off Jim Unknown in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
For the year, Valkenburg is batting .352 with 18 home runs, 51 RBIs and 37 runs scored.
