5-Hit Blitz by Miami's Cuevas
Monday, July 20th , 2020
After a 5-hit effort to lead Miami's 11-3 victory over the Hialeah Firecats, right fielder Gregg Cuevas told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Double A-level is really something special."
The 23-year-old player earned his accolades today at Firecats Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Firecats.
"His swing is getting there," said Boll Weevils skipper Bill Murtha, who spoke glowingly of Cuevas after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Gregg did that to perfection today."
Gregg Cuevas singled in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Dan Yeager in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
So far this season Cuevas has gotten 61 hits in 228 at-bats for a .268 batting average with 12 home runs. His stats include 32 RBIs and 33 runs scored. He has played in 63 games.
