Everly Batters Alcoa for 5 Hits Monday, May 6th , 2024 After a 5-hit effort to lead Winchester's 16-9 victory over the Alcoa Millionaires, catcher Ben Everly told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day." "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the ABA Double A-level is really something special." The 21-year-old player earned his accolades at Alcoa Grounds with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Millionaires. "His swing is getting there," said Mountaineers skipper Mitchell Young, who spoke glowingly of Everly after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Ben did that to perfection." Ben Everly flied out in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Adam Obermeier in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 4th, doubled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Mike Lanter in the 9th.
