Brown Pitches Vail to Shutout Victory Monday, June 27th , 2022 Mike Brown of the Vail Tigercats was on top of his game. The 23-year-old tantalized the Sonoma Scorpions with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0. "He had the changeup working," Sonoma manager Justin Watts said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower." The Vail hurler had 4 strikeouts, gave up 2 walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort. Brown told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league." "If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
