Fountain Hills Stops Espindola Hit Streak
Monday, July 20th , 2026
Detroit second baseman Fernando Espindola came into today's game against the Fountain Hills 23ers on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.
The 23ers did their jobs well, beating the Detroit Giants, 6-1, and holding Espindola hitless to snap his 24-game hitting streak. The 25-year-old second baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."
"What Fernando did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Giants manager Larry Voltaire. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 24 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."
To date this year, Espindola is batting .327 with 9 home runs.
