Calkins Rips 3 HR
Tuesday, June 18th , 2024
Dallas Dragons first baseman Cole Calkins sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Fountain Hills 23ers, Calkins told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Calkins pushed the Dragons past the 23ers, 15-14. To go along with the homers, he collected 7 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Calkins told reporters after the game.
Cole Calkins struck out in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off Brian Gay in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Joe Woolverton in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Wade McGonigle in the 9th.
This season, Calkins is batting .263 with 16 home runs. He has scored 41 runs and driven in 54.
