Today the Carolina hurler was awarded the league's Rookie of the Month trophy. He was acclaimed for his outstanding performance during the month of May. Cates breezed through the NC with 4 wins and no losses in 6 starts and a 1.35 ERA as he struck out 51 in 40 innings and held his opposition to a .167 batting average.
