League Gives Alvarez 3-Game Suspension
Sunday, June 23rd , 2019
The suspension of shortstop Willie Alvarez did not sit well with the Tampa Bay Captains. Both Alvarez and his manager were livid at what both say is an unjustified 3-game suspension issued today by league officials. Alvarez was suspended for "inappropriate conduct" during a game against the Charleston Shiners yesterday at Ahoy Park.

Alvarez was ejected from the game for arguing a strike call. "It's not right," he said, adding, "I didn't do anything to deserve this. Eject me, but don't suspend me."

His manager also vented his displeasure. "Arguments go on all the time, face-to-face, and there's not a suspension. To be suspended is ridiculous. That's bull."

Alvarez did more than just argue the call, he threw his bat at the feet of the umpire and walked off the field. That is the main reason the league suspended him.

This year Alvarez is batting .269 with 72 hits and no home runs. He has scored 26 times and has batted in 14 runs.
