Flowers 5-for-6 for California
|
Golden Bears third baseman Chris Flowers had his way with Northwestern pitching at Stu Gordon Stadium and mauled them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. His efforts were all in vain, though, as the Wildcats ruined his great day by toppling the Golden Bears, 14-11.
"I had a great day, but you've got to give Northwestern credit, they did what they had to do to win," he told reporters after the game. "They weren't very impressed with my 5 hits."
"Oh, we noticed what Flowers did today," Wildcats skipper Tommy Nevins said. "He had quite a game. I can tell you this, we will pitch him a little differently the next time we face him."
Chris Flowers singled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
This year, Flowers has hit at a .315 pace and produced 18 RBIs, 6 home runs and scored 20 runs.
