The Detroit Giants were defeated, 3-1, by the Syracuse Scorpions at Scorpion Stadium, even though Ryan Heyer pitched well for Detroit. The save was credited to Ken Allbaugh, his 22nd. The second-place Scorpions have won 4 straight.

The Giants had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Scorpions going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 29-year old third baseman Nate Volk came to the plate. Volk hit a 2-run double on a 1-2 changeup from Detroit hurler Ryan Heyer. It was Volk's 9th double of the year.

"Ah, the sweet taste of victory," Volk crowed after the game.
