Fire Secure 5-3 Win
|
Thanks in large part to left fielder Dan Brewer, the San Francisco Fire beat the San Diego Fleet, 5-3. Brewer was 2-3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Pat Hovhannisian, who led the AC in innings pitched with 249.1 in 2017, was the winning pitcher. Over 8 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 11 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Marcos Rosas got the save, the 9th for him this season.
The game turned with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Brewer hit a grand slam home run off Corey Gruver. It propelled the Fire into the lead, 5-1.
San Francisco manager Jim Clarke was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The Fire saw their win-loss record go to 40-43. At the same time, the Fleet fell to 48-35.
