The Phoenix Gladiators needed 14 innings to beat the Austin Desperados, 3-2, at Dell Diamond. The win was due in part to third baseman Ton Ariëns, who slugged 2 home runs. The Gladiators now own a record of 47-36.

Phoenix used the timely hitting of Paul McCarthy to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 14th inning to put the Gladiators on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 7 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"I put some good swings on the ball tonight," said Ariëns.
