Great Day for Simmons -- 5 Hits
|
Penn State third baseman Ryan Simmons had a big day at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park against the Iowa Hawkeyes. The 19-year-old, who is not typically considered a big threat with the bat, went 5-for-6 and led to the 6-4 Nittany Lions triumph over Iowa.
"Hey, I'm as surprised as you guys are," Simmons said in his postgame comments, smiling as he scolded the press corps for underestimating him. "Maybe I'm not so bad at the plate after all."
Ryan Simmons singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, singled in the 9th, doubled in the 10th, walked in the 12th and hit a two-run home run off Jerry Phillips in the 14th.
Currently Simmons is hitting .294 and has collected 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 21 times, while playing in 32 games.
