Gladiators Rack Up 10-5 Win Versus Austin
|
Gladiators Ballpark was the site for American Conference action featuring the Austin Desperados and Phoenix Gladiators.
The Phoenix Gladiators withstood an impressive performance by Austin catcher Malachi Smith to defeat the Desperados, 10-5, at Gladiators Ballpark. Smith went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times. Felipe Ayala picked up the win, lifting his record to 3-8 on the season. He struck out 3 and walked 1 in 5 innings, while yielding 4 runs.
Frank Radtke had a big grand slam home run for the Gladiators in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Phoenix trailing 3-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from Luke Scrimger, who finished 3rd in the AC in ERA with 2.89 in 2022, and punished it. The result was his 6th home run of the season, which put the Gladiators on top, 5-3.
"I know we have our doubters," said Austin manager Adam Ponder. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
This win makes it 5 in a row for Phoenix.
