Clutch Hitting Delivers Win for Scorpions
|
In a low-scoring contest, Syracuse pitcher Matt Simpson was marvelous, enabling his team to nab a 3-1 win. John Landgren got the save, his 11th in 15 chances. Syracuse's record now stands at 30-50, placing them third in the American Conference Central Division.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Guillermo Ramos came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Gordie Clifford, he hit a 2-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Syracuse on top, 3-1.
"Matt never lets off the gas," said Syracuse manager Ricardo Lopez. "Good, bad, or ugly, he never gives in."
