Though he had a great game, Leo Serna could not single-handedly produce a win for Austin. Detroit won the game, 3-2. Serna belted 2 home runs. Steve McCutcheon earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 2-1. With this game in the books, Detroit is 44-36, Austin 45-35.
Alex Martinez took Austin hurler Cameron Outlaw deep in the bottom of the seventh. His 2-run home run put the Giants on top, 3-2. In all, Martinez had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Austin manager Tim Ward.
