Austin pitcher Joe Townsend had a large part in his team beating the Detroit Giants, 10-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The winning pitcher was Townsend, now 4-2. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 8. Bill Reno, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.

Dave Jimenez was 1-4 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Austin. The 28-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring walk off Nate Ray. It was his 26th walk of the season.
