|
Rodrigo Lemus, who finished 3rd in the NC in wins with 19 last year, imposed his will on the Invaders from the get-go. Relying mainly on his fastball, the left-hander spearheaded the 4-1 San Diego triumph. The winning pitcher was Lemus, now 7-6. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 12. Jeff Adams recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 8 for 11.
Tied up with the Invaders in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Fleet got a boost from catcher Brent Brogdon. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Brogdon saw a 0-2 sinker from Randy Fischer and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put San Diego on top, 1-0.
Brogdon called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
San Diego improves to 46-33 with the win. They lead their division by 4 games.
