Tampa Bay got a terrific performance from pitcher Bobby Purdy, but it wasn't enough to beat the Maine Pines. Maine won the Oakhurst Field contest, 4-3. Purdy threw 8.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. With the win, Maine pushed its record to 53-26.

Jose Valverde was the walk-off hero for Maine. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Pines shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"I thought we competed really well," said Pines manager David Whigham. "I thought the energy was really good."
