Fountain Hills got a big-time effort from pitcher Curtis Gring, but it wasn't enough to keep the Phoenix Gladiators from winning the game, 1-0. Gring threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The win elevated the Gladiators to 45-34.

In the bottom of the ninth, Ton Ariëns had a chance to deal the knockout blow. And he did, punching a run-scoring sacrifice fly to center off Fountain Hills pitcher Jonathan Reeher.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Ariëns.
