Carolina Downed, 7-5, by Fire
|
The San Francisco Fire overcame a pretty good performance by Carolina first baseman Bobby Phillips, beating the Reapers, 7-5, at Reedy River Stadium. Phillips was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Gabe Sprung snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-0 on the season. Jake Schmitt suffered the loss. Jesus Henriguez picked up the save for San Francisco, his 19th of the year.
Jeff Mullinax came through with a big-time hit for San Francisco. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Mullinax said.
After today's action, San Francisco sits at 34-44, while Carolina falls to 31-47.
