Gangsters Score Late to Nip Trash Pandas, 5-4
|
The Chicago Gangsters had to overcome a fine effort from Toronto pitcher Jim Murphy to win, 5-4, at Trash Panda Field. Murphy went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Chicago reliever Jesse Keim picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tom Mott took the loss. Chicago is 28-50 and Toronto, with the loss, 36-42.
Chicago used a clutch hit from Hector Alvarez to snatch the win. The pinch hitter belted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Gangsters ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"I know we have our doubters," said Toronto manager Mike Cervantes. "But I still have high hopes for this team."
