Philadelphia Tags Austin with 6-4 Defeat
|
Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Philadelphia Marauders and Austin Desperados.
Corey Gruver, who finished 2nd in the NC in innings pitched with 237.1 in 2009, was locked in. The right-hander led the Philadelphia Marauders to a 6-4 win against the Austin Desperados at Dell Diamond. Gruver, now 5-7, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Vince Mellon finished the game for Philadelphia and earned his 14th save.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Austin Compton? The 2018 Most Valuable Player Award winner Compton stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put Philadelphia up, 4-0. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Corey was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said Philadelphia manager Danny Ordaz.
The victory gives Philadelphia a record of 44-32.
