Capitols Hold Off Tigercats, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Augusta Capitols and the Vail Tigercats, Carlos Loera was the X factor. The Augusta right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Colby Heim earned his 16th save in 18 tries. The triumph puts Augusta at 71-61 for the season.
Nick Owens had a big 2-run home run for the Capitols in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Augusta leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a splitter from Steve Pikula and swatted a home run to left. It was his 10th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Capitols ahead, 3-0.
"Tough loss," said Vail manager Mike Alexander. "But that's how the chips sometimes fall."
