Fans watched the Hialeah Firecats and the Miami Boll Weevils fight to the finish.

The Hialeah Firecats weathered an outstanding game by Miami left fielder Juan Ortega to topple the Boll Weevils, 5-4. Ortega was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Darius Timmons notched his 11th save of the season.

Hialeah used the timely hitting of Steve Thomas to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Firecats on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Hialeah manager John Costa commended his team for "banging out a nice win."

After today's action, Hialeah sits at 52-81; Miami slips to 63-70.
