Led by David Reed, the Miami Boll Weevils defeated the Sonoma Scorpions, 6-5. Reed was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice for the Boll Weevils. Brett Emma picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-3. He struck out 7 in 5.2 innings. The 4th-place Boll Weevils have a record of 61-69.
Miami took a 3-0 lead on Reed's 11th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Jose Ceballos in the top of the sixth, propelled Miami to the win.
"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Reed told the Miami Observer.
