The Miami Boll Weevils did just enough to sneak past the Cornwall Royals, 4-3, at Ballpark of Miami. Miami pitcher Joe Brown, in particular, had a standout performance. Brent Kuest earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 8-2. The 4th-place Boll Weevils are 60-70.

Dave Maffei went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Miami. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Maffei had a clutch at-bat. Facing Cornwall hurler Chris Payton, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Boll Weevils a 4-3 lead.

"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said Miami manager Bill Murtha. "That's what Joe is right now."
