Boll Weevils Deny Bombardiers, 4-3
|
The Miami Boll Weevils did just enough to sneak past the Cincinnati Bombardiers, 4-3, at Ballpark of Cincinnati. Miami pitcher Mike Mudge, in particular, had a standout performance. The winning pitcher was Mudge, now 4-6. He tossed 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 5. John Reynolds nailed down his 7th save.
Miami used a well-timed hit by Ted Hiner to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Boll Weevils ahead, 4-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
Hiner called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
The second-place Bombardiers now sit at 62-56.
