Boll Weevils Upend Firecats, 3-1
|
The Miami Boll Weevils, despite a fine performance by Hialeah pitcher Jason Brokaw, grabbed a 3-1 win at Firecats Ballpark. Brokaw allowed 2 runs over 7 innings. Mike Hammond earned the win for Miami. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 5-1. Dave Vondrasek, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 13th save.
Miami used a clutch at-bat from Lance Ricke to capture the win. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Boll Weevils ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Watch and learn," said Ricke. "This is what good pitching looks like."
Miami, at 51-60, occupies 4th place in the Western AA Coastal Division.
