Matt Sandridge never let London get something going. The Hialeah right-hander commanded his fastball in pitching the Firecats to a 4-1 win. The winner was Sandridge. He threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Jim Patterson. The Firecats now have a record of 36-72.

The Tigers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Firecats going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old left fielder Steve Veith came to the plate. Veith hit a 2-run double on a first pitch sinker from London hurler Jim Patterson. It was Veith's 12th double of the year.

"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Firecats manager John Costa, "I like our chances."
