Boll Weevils Cut Down Bombardiers, 5-1
|
Carlos Mejia pitched a gem to lead Miami to victory over the Cincinnati Bombardiers, 5-1. Mejia got the win, improving to 2-0. He gave up 5 hits and walked 3 over 6 innings. He allowed 1 run. The save went to Brian Joiner, number 1 for him.
Miami third baseman Ryan Clark said he just wanted to make contact when he came to bat with a runner on 2nd in the bottom of the sixth. He did even better -- Clark hit a 2-run home run to stake Miami to a 3-1 lead. His 2nd home run of the season came off Cincinnati pitcher Mike Pinion.
"You have to trust that what you're doing is going to produce results," said Mejia.
The third-place Boll Weevils now have a win-loss record of 53-55.
