Firecats Fall, 9-5, to Monterosso, Bombardiers
|
Due in large part to catcher Mark Monterosso, the Cincinnati Bombardiers sunk the Hialeah Firecats, 9-5. Monterosso went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Cincinnati pitcher Gabriel Huey got the win. He's now 10-9. David Weathersby was tagged with the loss. The second-place Bombardiers hiked their record to 57-53.
The Firecats had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Bombardiers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old first baseman Tom Johnson came to the plate. Johnson hit a 2-run double on a 1-2 sinker from Hialeah hurler David Weathersby. It was Johnson's 9th double of the year.
"Nice win for us," said Johnson. "Now we'll go after the next one."
