Vermont pitcher Vicente Perez did his part in helping his team beat the Augusta Capitols, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. In 8 innings, Perez surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 3. He allowed 2 runs. Earning his 17th save for Vermont was Manuel Angloma.
Had B.J. Stevens not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Stevens hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Milkmen.
"Vicente was pounding the zone," said Vermont manager Steve Reid.
Vermont goes to 50-56, Augusta to 58-48.
