Vail got a terrific game from center fielder Ken Hippler. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Sonoma, 6-3. Hippler went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Greg Brando earned the win for Sonoma. He lasted 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, while striking out 5. With the win, he raised his record to 3-2. The 59-47 Scorpions lead the Western AA Coastal Division by one game.

Sonoma used a well-timed hit by Keith DiPiazza to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Scorpions ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said DiPiazza.
