The Miami Boll Weevils beat the Sonoma Scorpions, 2-1. Miami pitcher and South Woodbridge, California, native Jason Alvers led the way. In 7.2 innings, Alvers surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. The Boll Weevils, at 51-52, sit in third place in the Western AA Coastal Division.
The Boll Weevils got a big at-bat from first baseman Jamie Tripp. For the game, Tripp was 2 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 12th double of the season gave Miami a 2-0 lead.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Sonoma manager Elias Nunez.
