Whistlers Take Tight Tangle
|
Boston pitcher Jay Helm had a large part in his team beating the Hollywood Stars, 4-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Boston reliever Dusty Thomas picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Nick Calvache absorbed the loss. The American Conference Central Division-leading Whistlers have a record of 43-30.
Austin Alpers had a clutch hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two men out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the Boston first baseman hit a run-scoring single. That put the Whistlers in the lead, 4-3.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Boston manager Mike Plocher.
